— Character UV & Texture —
Process
When I did the character’s UV, I first cut the complex parts into several parts and then cut to form a flat surface. After that, a PNG image was printed by proper placement. Then I coloured images in Procreate. Finally, I attached the material to the model to finish the colouring.

Difficulties & Solution
When I was creating the UV for the characters’ hat, Maya’s Unfold function could not process due to its irregularity and complexity. I couldn’t get the hair of the hat to unfurl even if I kept separating parts. After several cutting and trials, I finally decided to cut the hair completely and paint it white. The hair around the eyes of the hat and the braid were also cut off separately.
When I was processing the UV of the character’s head, MAYA did not want to properly unfold part of the hair. And it kept this part of his hair separate from the rest no matter how much I tried to sew it back on. So I ended up having to make this entire part of my hair black.

When I was unfolding the arm of the character Maya create it as a circle which is not the right shape. After a lot of re-cutting and trying, it is finally fixed.

what can I do better next time
Since this is the first time I fully use the UV function, the cutting and colouring parts are still new to me. Next time I can more fluently use the function. And when drawing the UV texture, I will add more details.
During the modelling process the hat created a lot of trouble. Due to its complexity, I inadvertently created a lot of irregular polygons. This also made the progress of creating UV for the hat very difficult. So next time I will retopologize the whole model so that all the faces are quadrilateral.
