Initial Idea
When I was thinking about what festival to use as a reference for my character, the first thing that came to my mind was the Chinese Spring Festival. It was particularly fresh in my mind because I had recently celebrated the Chinese New Year. When I think of Chinese New Year, the color red pops out of my mind. So I decided to use red as my character’s main color. Lion dance is a big activity during the Spring Festival, so my character will wear a lion dancing cap. Lanterns and fans are also very important elements during the Spring Festival. Therefore, my character will be holding either a lantern or a fan. I want to use cute version similar to the Chinese Fuwa style as my overall style of the character. In terms of details, I plan to randomly use some Chinese elements to embellish and depict my character.
Characteristic
Character Background
My character’s background will be a Chinese little boy living in an ordinary family in Beijing. Which is having a happy childhood. During the Spring Festival, the family dressed up the boy with Chinese traditional clothes and a lantern to hold.
Character Feature
The character features will look more Asian. He would have a big, slender eyes with single eyelids, a small nose and dark hair color. The figure would look more juvenile.
Character Posture
I looked for some child gestures. For example, playful foot movements and the posture of holding a lantern are more in line with the lively and cheerful image of a child.
Color Theme
The character is based on the Concept of Chinese New Year. So the color theme I used is Red.
Character Sketch
For the Shape and Silhouettes of the character I used round and triangle since round seems more harmless and cute. I tried to create more smooth edges instead of sharp shapes to create a childish look for the character. I intended to make the gestures of the character more curvy so the entire look of the character would harmless and cute.
